Established in 1998, Sun Life Ireland provides software development, helpdesk technical support and business administration services to sister companies and various business units within Sun Life Financial.
Sun Life is committed to providing the highest levels of service delivery to clients. This commitment was acknowledged in 1999 when we were awarded ISO 9001 Certification, a significant achievement in our first year of operation. Not only have we maintained the ISO 9001 Certification since then, but our software development division also achieved SEI-CMM level 3 in January 2004.
In 2006 we were delighted to be awarded the "Chamber of Commerce Business Excellence Award" in recognition of what Sun Life has brought to the business community in Waterford. We have also received the "Excellence Through People" accreditation from FAS recognising our commitment to the training and development of our employees.
In October 2006, Sun Life Ireland was presented with an "Excellence in Education" award from LOMA in recognition of outstanding performance and commitment to employee professional development. LOMA is an international association through which more than 1,250 insurance and financial services companies from over 70 countries engage in research and educational activities to improve company operations. Sun Life Ireland offers two LOMA accreditations, FLMI and AAPA and a monetary bonus to staff members who complete exams.
Software
Of our 400 people in Waterford, over 180 are involved in software development across a broad range of technologies. They are engaged in projects with colleagues across the company's international operations. Software projects are typically focused on the re-engineering, enhancement and replacement of existing financial applications for life assurance, client services, pensions, annuities, and data warehousing systems. Sun Life Financial Ireland teams provide services at all stages of the software life cycle, from project feasibility through development, to production support.
Along with our growth comes great new opportunities for Web Developers, Quality Assurance Engineers, Mainframe Engineers, Business Systems Analysts, and Client-Server Developers.
Technologies of particular interest include: COBOL, VSAM, CICS, DB2 JCL, TSO, Cold Fusion, Java/J2EE, EJB, XML, HTML, Visual Basic, Crystal Enterprise, MS SQL, UNIX, Oracle, Windows NT, Sybase, Powerbuilder, FORTE, Magic and Access.
Our software development teams engage on software projects with our colleagues in Toronto and Boston. Projects are undertaken in the Client/Server, UNIX, Mainframe, software quality assurance and Web Development areas.

Helpdesk
Our Helpdesk commenced operations in April 1999. It provides 24 hour, seven-day support to over 10,000 Sun Life Financial employees in the United States and Canadian offices. Support is provided in English and in French.
We troubleshoot problems on all MS Office applications, Lotus Notes, Windows NT, Novell Networks as well as our Mainframe system. Problems can range from simple access requests or password changes, to complex network IS.
Business Administration
Our Business Support Centre provides business administration services to our Life and Annuities divisions within the US business. Specifically, we have teams working on verification of insurance coverage, renewal of claim requests, analysis of policy provisions, processing withdrawals, fund transfers and exchanges, death benefit requests and maintenance work on client accounts.
