Corporate social responsibility
Sun Life is committed to giving back to the local community, and since its establishment in 1998, has made huge efforts in raising awareness and funds for local charities. In 2009, a dedicated Sun Life community relations committee was established to create links between Sun Life and the local community. Employees can contact this committee to nominate a charity/organisation that they feel would benefit from its efforts. Smaller fundraising events are held throughout the year and can range from a Jeans Week to a Bake Sale or a Car Space Raffle. To date these fundraising efforts have benefited such charities as AWARE, Special Olympics, Waterford Search and Rescue, Crumlin's Children's Hospital and St. Vincent de Paul to name a few.
In addition, every second year our dedicated charity committee works to coordinate a large scale employee event, such as sporting events, musical concert and comedy nights with some of Ireland’s well known talents.
In 2018, as part of celebrations to mark Sun Life’s 20th year in Waterford, a charity night was held and as part of this night and other fund raising events throughout the year, €51,500 was raised and donated to Pieta House, The SOLAS Cancer support centre and Waterford Hospice.
